Amari-J's Amazing Story

Christa Amari Jordan (Amari J.) was born in Moreno Valley, Ca on October 17th, 1991. At the age of nine, Amari started teaching herself the fundamentals of music by ear. Jordan’ first instrument was keyboard, and eventually she gravitated toward the electric and acoustic guitar. Instead of learning songs from other composers, Amari went right into creating her own material, and often performed for classrooms around school, in front of her peers.

At the age of 11, Amari started getting heavy into poetry and constructing beats on tables with her friends. Around school, Jordan and her crew were known for recreating mainstream beats they heard on the radio at lunch with their pens. Teachers made Jordan sit on her hands because she simply could not get enough of rhythm and syncipation. Once Jordan got into high school, she met a boy by the name of Joseph Hoskins who taught her the basics of the program Fruity Loops, and has since then produced and arranged all her own music with knowledge of several different software programs.

Amari is a multi-genre artist who also plays multiple instruments by ear. Her biggest influence in music is Prince, but she is also influenced by artists such as Ryan Leslie, Missy Elliot, Lenny Kravitz, The Roots, and Third Eye Blind.

Amari believes artists vibe off each other, and therefore strives hard to collaborate with other musicians to see their points of view. In 2011, Amari dropped the Violet EP, that included the singles: California Grown, Sweat, and You Love Me. Then on July 31, 2015, Jordan dropped the Purple Dreams EP which stimulated the thoughts of love, fantasy, light, the universe, dreams in all stages, and trance. Later on in the year, after suffering the loss of one of her best friends Aaron Ramirez, Jordan dropped the B-sides concept EP Purple Nightmares on October 31, 2015. Purple Nightmares was a living breathing prayer that embodied sin, nightmares, harsh realities, darkness, demons, consciousness, loss, death, and abuse of the body. Currently, Amari is gearing up for the Amethyst EP which is dropping before Summer 2017. This will be the longest EP she has done thus far, and it encompasses and illustrates love versus lust, dark versus light, the question of our very existence, and the overall outlook of life and how we often feel.
